As we roll right into October like grape clusters into the press, harvest continues. On Friday, September 29, Dave and his twin grandsons, Mattias and Rowan, and their Mom and Dad, Marianne and Bill, harvested some absolutely perfect Cabernet Franc – and surprisingly, the Petit Verdot as well.
Dave says they got three tons of Cab Franc at 23.5 Brix and a pH of 3.4, which is just about perfect!!! Three and one half tons of Petit Verdot were also brought in at 24.5 Brix. The Merlot still hangs. Usually, it’s the Petit Verdot that comes in last, but this year, the Merlot awaits. It will be picked sometime in October, which is fitting, since this happens to be Merlot month!
Remembering Anne
We pause to remember Anne’s birthday, October 3. Dave recently took a moment to install a shiny starfish above her memorial on the side of the gazebo. It was created by Jerry Clarke, fifth generation Californian, the former mayor of Capitola, and the original graphic artist who designed the Burrell School bell tower icon that graces the winery’s labels.
#MerlotMe Celebration
We’ll be marking Merlot Month all month long with one of our favorites from the estate. 2012 Merlot will be specially priced.
