Anne Moulton of Burrell School reports that harvest 2010 is officially OVER! Right before the first big rains of the season arrived, they pulled in the last of the tardy students, with Petit Verdot the last to come in from the schoolyard.
10-15, Pichon Cabernet Franc, 4.5 tons (compare to last year’s 3.2 tons)
10-20 was picking date for our Estate Petit Verdot, .5 ton (this block was aggressively thinned by Dave)
10-21 was Thursday , just before the arrival of this year’s first significant rains, and we brought in 2.4 tons of fully ripe Cabernet Sauvignon from the Luchessi vineyard in Saratoga
What a year it has been! Miraculously, all students appear to have come through the difficult, heat-deficient summer and subsequent heat-heavy fall harvest period relatively unscathed. One way or another, 2010 will be one for the record books.
