Welcome to April, the month of exuberant spring growth in the vineyards, fields and everywhere you look. The vineyard floor is lush with green grass and yellow clover and the vines are literally exploding with new growth. It looks like all that rain has given the vines additional vigor. We celebrate “April in Paris” all month long! Feel free to wear a beret – you might catch Dave sporting one.
Typically, flowering and fruit set occur late in April and early May and our wish is for warm and dry weather during that time. So far, we’re off to a good start!
For those of you who purchased futures of the 2015s, we’re about to bottle them, so be sure to make room for them in your cellar, when they are available by month’s end.
Meanwhile, the entire month of April is busy in the tasting room and elsewhere, with lots of exciting wine events, including the “Foodfest on the Summit” for Passport Day, when all our Summit area wineries will be sampling goodies. We welcome Roxanne of Roxanne’s Biscotti to the Schoolhouse – come up, say hello and taste her crunchy, delicious biscotti’s from her Grandmother’s original recipe. They make great additions to Easter baskets or gifts for Mother’s Day, along with a bottle or two of Burrell School wine.
Reminder: we’ll be open for Easter (April 16). And while you’re here, take a moment to admire Anne’s tulips, in full bloom right now. Next up will be the heritage roses: a constant reminder of our beloved Head Mistress!
EVENTS
April 6, 6-9pm — Santana Row Row Spring Wine Walk to benefit the Junior League of San Jose. Join us for a fun evening at everybody’s favorite shopping destination. Say hello to Katarina at Donald Pliner!
April 15 — We’re observing “Foodfest on the Summit” for Spring Passport Day with 10% of all wines, along with fruit and cheese plates. Roxanne’s Biscotti will be here at the winery, and the Wildcat Mountain Ramblers will be playing their beloved bluegrass. Spend the day in our neck of the woods and visit our Summit winery partners, too: Loma Prieta (roses for Moms), MJA (sampling olive oils & balsamics) and Wrights Station (cheese pairing). Over 50 wineries participate in Passport days. Passports, $65, are available at the winery as well as online at www.scmwa.com
