Burrell School Celebrates 125 Years This Weekend!
The iconic red schoolhouse marks another milestone in its illustrious history on July 4th as it celebrates birthday number 125. The schoolhouse was dedicated on July 4th, 1890, with a flag raising ceremony accompanied by trumpet playing and merrymaking.
This Saturday, July 4, you are invited to share in the festivities along with Anne and Dave, as they proudly raise a glass in honor of this iconic landmark that has been their home for the past 42 years. They’ll be serving birthday cake in honor of the occasion, raising an historically appropriate flag and unveiling a commemorative plaque.
The flag raising will begin at 2pm, followed by birthday cake and the rare opportunity to look inside the historic schoolhouse, which serves as the Moulton’s residence. It is also a mini-museum, with original desks, blackboards and photos.
Anne recalls, “We moved into the run-down Burrell School in September of 1973 and the first thing we did was to tear down what was left of the roof. Suddenly, our mountain neighbors began to visit. Their topic of concern was whether we were going to tear down the schoolhouse. We reassured everyone that we were going to restore the building and we were accepted as mountain folk.”
Check out Dave’s new GSM blend, known as “Graduate School of Management:” easy to drink and easy to love, with breezy berry flavors and vibrant acidity, it’s the perfect wine to celebrate the summer season!
