Who would expect two years in a row of grouchy, gloomy, completely ornery and unpredictable weather? The vineyards seem to be handling it all with a better sense of humor than we humans. It appears we are being acclimated to a new version of “normal” for the month of May. With any luck, though, the sunshine will return and give new blossoms a chance to release their special fragrance and begin the process of setting baby grapes.
And the return of some serious spring sunshine will be most welcome, as there are lots of special events on the horizon. At Burrell School, we have some fun “field trips” planned, and we invite you along for the ride! Hold on to your hats, as it might be a bit blustery.
Saturday, May 21st, Bonnets and Blooms: Saratoga Springtime (we hope!!) Wine Stroll from 3-6pm in Saratoga Village. Fine local wines from Burrell School and others, gourmet foods, flowers, live music and art displays. Tickets, $35, buy online at www.saratogachamber.org
Saturday, May 29th, Music in the Garden from 1 to 5pm at The Arboretum at UCSC campus. Enjoy the flowers and foliage of the Arboretum while enjoying live music, fabulous food from local purveyors and fine wine from Burrell School and the Summit to the Sea wineries. www.arboretum.ucsc.edu/calendar/

Wine Bottle Renew: The Green Thing to Do!
“It’s the right thing to do,” says Burrell School’s President, Marianne Moulton Martin, announcing our partnering with Wine Bottle Renew. We will recycle all our bottles through Bottle Renew to be cleaned, sorted, sterilized and reused on our bottling line. We can also collect your used bottles from any winery. Bring them to us in case boxes, please. This green step results in a 95% carbon footprint reduction. How’s that for the right thing to do!
Go to www.winebottlerenew.com for an informative video of this exciting new development.
