April Fools, Rain Rules: See You At The School!

We’re delighted to have real rain, finally!! It’s over an inch so far as we cross into April from a misty March, after a dessicating winter. The vines and all the heritage roses will be celebrating the wet!  We love the old saying, “April Showers Bring May Flowers!” Rain on!!

EASTER & PASSPORT

April also brings the Easter bunny who will be hopping in for a visit on April Passport Day, April 19, bearing gourmet jelly beans to pair with Winemaker Dave’s tasty wines.

April 6^th—Small Plates Celebrates, a food and wine pairing at the Jewish Community Center, Los Gatos. Burrell School will be paired up with Billy’s Chowder House, so check out the fish bouillabaise paired with our Teacher’s Pet Chardonnay, along with a dozen other great local food and wine pairings. April 11-13^th—PINOT PARADISE WEEKEND.   April 11^th, Technical Session and Tasting at The Mountain Winery.  April 12^th, Pathway to Paradise at participating wineries.  April 13^th, Grand Tasting at The Mountain with 40 wineries and 20 restaurants.  Purchase advance tickets at our tasting room—just ask Katrina.  More information at www.scmwa.com

April 19^th—Spring Passport Day.  Purchase a passport and tour the wineries of the Santa Cruz Mountains.  Passports are $45 and are good for 2 years.  www.scmwa.com

April 24^th—A Taste of Summer.  A concert and fundraiser for the Cabrillo Music Festival featuring sweet and savory treats, local wines and music by Quartet San Francisco at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz.  www.cabrillomusic.org

May 1^st—Old Town Los Gatos Art, Eats &  Wine Festival.  4-7pm in Old Town, Los Gatos.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Burrell School Vineyards is celebrating our 20^th anniversary in the wine business this year.  We received our federal bond on October 6^th, 1994.  And, after 20 years of growing, harvesting, wine making, bottling, tasting, selling and meeting the best people in the world, we’re still having fun.

We’ll be sharing history lessons throughout the year and will have some very special events scheduled for October.

APRIL HISTORY LESSON

 Pinot Noir is one of Winemaker Dave’s passions. 

Question: What three Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards has he used to craft some mighty fine Pinot over the years? 

Answer:  Vista del Mar Vineyard, Veranda Vineyard and our very own Estate planting of Pinot Noir. Oh, and they’ve all been great!

We recently found a 1998 vintage of the Vista del Mar Pinot in the cellar.  Made in a lighter style than our Estate wines, this older beauty is still tasting pretty sweet. The Veranda was one of the true beauties: do you still have some in your cellar?
