Spotlight: 2011 “Class Clown” Carignane

With Graduation on everyone’s minds these days, we thought we’d shine a spotlight on the character everyone loves to remember as they bid adieu to their previous grade, school or class.

Made of fruit from low-yielding vines that have seen 106 years of wind and weather, this classic old vine Carignane offers nose-tingling aromas of sumac, choke cherries and spiced crabapples. The flavors are vivid and intense, mingling red pie cherries, pickled beets, ginger root, red plums, capers and a hint of horseradish. Pair with something rich like crispy duck legs or arugula salad with beets, spiced pecans and goat cheese.
