Happy 124th Birthday to the Burrell Schoolhouse!

July is here, the heat is on and we at the Schoolhouse are in a very festive mood as we approach our annual confluence of sizzling summer celebrations. This year, we wish a very happy 124^th birthday to Burrell School and a very happy Independence Day to the USA!

Celebrate with us over the Fourth of July weekend with sweet treats for everyone and barrel tasting and futures sales for Sippers Club members.

We have some great wine specials for July celebrations, including two recently released wines, including the stellar 2011 “Teacher’s Pet” Chardonnay and our very special 2009 “Prom Night,” an intriguing blend of Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah and Syrah. Both are just $20 per bottle during July. 2008 Syrah and Zin are also on sale for $20 each. Stock up!

July Weekends—Barrel tasting and futures sales. Every weekend in July, Sippers Club members are invited to taste and evaluate the 2012 Merlot and Dean’s List Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2013 Chardonnay and Old School Cabernet. Wines are available for purchase at 50% off retail pricing. Don’t forget magnums for those special birthdays, anniversaries and holidays!!

Saturday, July 19^th—Summer Passport Day. Explore and enjoy the wines of the Santa Cruz Mountains at this quarterly event with special experiences at each participating winery. www.scmwa.com

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Drum roll, please—Burrell School Vineyards is celebrating our 20^th anniversary in the wine business this year. We received our federal bond on October 6^th, 1994. And, after 20 years of growing, harvesting, wine making, bottling, tasting, selling and meeting the best people in the world, we’re still having fun.

We’ll be sharing history lessons throughout the year and will have some very special events scheduled for October.

JULY HISTORY LESSON

The much-loved red schoolhouse celebrates its birthday on July 4^th of each year. The first celebration was in 1890, when the local community gathered to  dedicate the schoolhouse upon its rebuilding following a major forest fire. The program included orations, music, prayers and the raising of the flag by Miss Minnie Morrell. This photo shows the well-dressed crowd gathered for that very first birthday party!
